Sheffield United vs Burnley Matchday Stats Preview

Sheffield United vs Burnley Matchday Stats Preview

Sheffield United have lost just one of their last 20 home league games against Burnley (W14 D5), going down 3-2 in December 2008. They’ve won both of their Premier League games against the Clarets at Bramall Lane.

Burnley won 5-0 against Sheffield United in the reverse fixture in December. The most goals they’ve netted against an opponent in a single campaign in the competition is seven (vs Bournemouth in 2018-19).

Only one of the five Premier League games between two newly promoted teams this season have been won by the home team (D1 L3) but that occurred in the reverse fixture between Burnley and Sheffield United back in December (5-0).

Sheffield United have conceded 84 goals in their 32 Premier League games this season; it’s the most at this stage of a top-flight campaign since Ipswich in 1963-64 (85), and the most the Blades have conceded overall in a league campaign since 1954-55 (86 in 42 games).

Since a 1-0 win against Brentford, Sheffield United are winless in seven home league games (D3 L4), conceding at least twice in each match. Only twice has a team conceded 2+ goals in eight consecutive Premier League home games – Wolves in 2011-12 (11) and Norwich in 2019 (9).

Burnley have dropped 24 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, with only Brentford (30) losing more. Meanwhile, Sheffield United have also let 17 points slip when winning this term, only losing more in 1993-94 (25).

Despite no team using more different players in the Premier League than Sheffield United this season (33), no side has had fewer different goalscorers than the Blades (10, excluding own goals).

Sheffield United have spent just 9.9% of their Premier League games in the lead so far this season, the lowest amount of time any side has spent either winning or losing. Indeed, they’ve been trailing for a league high 46.9% of the time so far this term.

Sheffield United’s Oli McBurnie has been involved in eight goals in his last eight Premier League home games, scoring six and assisting twice. The only game in this run in which he hasn’t registered a goal or assist was in the Blades’ 6-0 defeat to Arsenal last month.

Burnley’s Zeki Amdouni has been substituted off in 86% of his Premier League appearances this season (25/29), the highest share of any player to play at least 20 games in Premier League history.
