Newcastle United vs Sheffield United Matchday Stats Preview

Newcastle have won seven of their last eight league games against Sheffield United (L1), with the exception being a 1-0 away loss in the Premier League in January 2021.

Sheffield United have lost three of their four Premier League away games against Newcastle, failing to score in each defeat. The exception was a 1-0 victory under Neil Warnock in November 2006.

Newcastle beat Sheffield United 8-0 in the reverse fixture at Bramall Lane – the most goals they’ve ever scored against an opponent in a single Premier League campaign is 10, doing so against the Blades’ rivals Sheffield Wednesday in 1999-00.

Newcastle have lost none of their eight Premier League home games against promoted sides under Eddie Howe (W3 D5), with their last such defeat coming against Leeds United under Steve Bruce in January 2021.

Newcastle have scored in all 17 of their Premier League home games this season, with their 43 goals in total their most at St James’ Park in a top-flight campaign since 1996-97 (54).

Newcastle have lost just one of their last 25 Premier League games kicking off at 3pm on Saturday (W16 D8), going down 1-0 at Luton earlier this season. At home, the Magpies are unbeaten in 17 such games (W10 D7) since a 3-0 loss to Chelsea in October 2021.

Sheffield United have lost 16 of their last 18 Premier League away games played on a Saturday, though the exceptions have come across their last three such matches (3-1 v Luton, 2-2 v Bournemouth).

Newcastle had eight different goalscorers against Sheffield United in their 8-0 win in the reverse fixture this season. The most different players to score against an opponent one team has had in a single Premier League campaign (excluding own goals) is nine, by Manchester City against Watford (2019-20) and Leeds (2021-22).

Alexander Isak has scored in each of his last six Premier League home games, with only Andrew Cole (8 in 1993-94) and Alan Shearer (15 in 1996-97) netting in more consecutively for Newcastle in the competition.

With nine goals and six assists, Anthony Gordon has been involved in more home league goals for Newcastle this season than any other player (15). It’s the most by a player at St James’ Park in a single Premier League campaign since Alan Shearer’s 18 in 2003-04 (15 goals, 3 assists).
