The American Multinational Company Facebook on Thursday canceled the celebration of its annual conference of F8 developers, which was scheduled for May 5 and 6 in San Jose (California, USA), for fear of the outbreak of coronavirus.
"Given the increased concern about COVID-19 (as the virus is known), we have made the difficult decision to cancel the face-to-face component of F8 2020," explained the Director for Partners Platform, Konstantinos Papamiltiadis, in a message in the official blog of the company.
The developer conference, similar to the one held by other technology giants such as Google or Apple every year, brings together thousands of people from all over the world at the San José Convention Center.
"It has been tough. F8 is a tremendously important event for Facebook and one of our favorite ways to celebrate all our developers on the entire planet, but we have had to prioritize the health and safety of our partners, employees and everyone that helps to make F8, "said Papamiltiadis.
At the moment, neither Apple nor Google have suspended their respective developer conferences
During the last weeks Facebook has canceled several events that it was going to organize and has suspended its presence in international fairs such as the MWC of Barcelona (which ended up being canceled), the GDC of San Francisco and PAX East of Boston.
At the moment, neither Apple nor Google have suspended their respective developer conferences, although the technology industry is being greatly affected by the worldwide outbreak of coronavirus.
On Wednesday, Microsoft warned that it would not meet the revenue expectations it had previously announced for the current quarter because of the effect that COVID-19 is having on its suppliers in China."Given the increased concern about COVID-19 we have made the difficult decision to cancel the face-to-face component of F8 2020"
Specifically, Microsoft lowered revenue expectations for its "more personal computing" segment, which includes, in addition to the Windows operating system, the Xbox video console and Surface touch computers.
Earlier, another American tech giant with strong commercial ties with China, Apple, also indicated that the coronavirus will have a negative impact on its accounts.
