Samsung insists with the folding models and will offer from next month, starting with China, a new screen model that doubles and will be compatible with 5G networks. Despite the controversial start of the Fold, the first folding screen mobile of the Korean company, whose sale had to be delayed by the problems detected in the units, Samsung will launch the W20 5G, a model similar to its predecessor, but with improvements in the folding system and internal processors.
The new model has been unveiled by China Telecom and presents a wider and more reinforced folding zone to avoid the problems detected in the first phone of these characteristics of the brand. The outer frame is thinner to reduce the thickness of the unit when folded.
The main changes are not visible. The W20 will feature the Snapdragon 855+ SoC platform, a system that improves the gaming and graphics experience and increases the performance of the central processing unit. Its incorporation is essential for connectivity with 5G, the latest generation of mobile telephony that is already being implemented in Spain.
The new folding will have 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, the latest generation of chips from the Korean company, and 512 GB of UFS 3.0 storage, with higher reading speed and improving battery performance. The latter, of 4,235 mAh, is an evolution of the one presented by the Fold and can be charged by cable or wirelessly.
The dimensions of the screen remain the same: an exterior of 4.6 inches and another interior Infinity Flex Dynamic AMOLED that, deployed, reaches 7.3 inches with a resolution of 2,152 x 1,536 pixels. AKG speakers are located on the sides of the screens and are compatible with Dolby Atmos, a hybrid surround sound system.
Nor do the six cameras of the Fold model change . The W20 will have three in the back, two in the drop-down zone (between 12 and 16 megapixels) and one in front of 10 MP. The provision of these tools allows self-portraits or video calls to be held with both the terminal open and closed.
The Galaxy Fold is on sale in Spain for 2,020 euros. The price of the Samsung W20 5G will be announced as soon as it becomes available, which will be from next month in China, but it is not expected to be lower than its predecessor.
