Burnley vs Liverpool Match Stats Preview

Burnley have won just two of their 16 Premier League games against Liverpool (D2 L12), winning 2-0 at home in August 2016, and 1-0 away in January 2021.

Liverpool have won seven of their eight Premier League away games against Burnley (L1), their highest away win rate (88%) against any side they’ve faced at least five times on the road in the competition.

Burnley have lost five of their last seven league games on Boxing Day (W1 D1), with their only win in that time coming against Middlesbrough in the Premier League in 2016-17.

Liverpool have won their last six Premier League Boxing Day games, since a 2-1 loss at Man City in 2013-14. It’s their longest winning run on the day in their league history.

Liverpool have never lost when facing a promoted team on Boxing Day in the Premier League (W6 D1), with this their first such match since a 1-0 win against Burnley at Turf Moor in 2014-15.

Burnley have lost eight of their nine Premier League home games so far this season, winning the other 5-0 against Sheffield United. Only four times in their top-flight history have they lost more at Turf Moor in a single campaign – nine in 1970-71, 1975-76 and 2020-21, and 10 in 2018-19.

After failing to score in five of seven Premier League away games between January and April, Liverpool have found the net in each of their last 13 on the road, netting 30 goals in the process.

Liverpool manager J├╝rgen Klopp has won all five of his Premier League games on Boxing Day, by an aggregate score of 17-1. No manager has a better 100% record in the competition on December 26th (Mauricio Pochettino also 5/5).

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in 15 goals in his last 13 away appearances in the Premier League, scoring five and assisting 10. However, he’s neither scored nor assisted in his last five home and away against Burnley, his longest run without a goal involvement against an opponent in the competition.

With two goals and four assists, no current Premier League player has been involved in more goals on Boxing Day in the competition than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (6).
