Real Madrid vs Braga Match Stats Preview

Real Madrid won their first ever meeting with Braga last time out (2-1), although the Portuguese side had more shots (16-13), more touches in the opposition box (33-28) and a higher xG total (1.54 - 0.89) in the match.

Among teams facing Real Madrid away from home in European competition for the first time, only one of the last 18 sides doing so have managed to win the game (D1 L16): Sheriff Tiraspol in September 2021 (2-1).

Real Madrid have never lost at home to a Portuguese side in European competition, winning nine of the previous 10 such matches (D1). The only Portuguese team to avoid defeat away to Real Madrid is FC Porto, who played out a 1-1 draw in the 2003-04 UEFA Champions League group stage.

This will be just Braga’s second away game against a Spanish side in major European competition, with the previous being a 2-0 UEFA Cup defeat at Sevilla in November 2006.

Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last eight home games in the UEFA Champions League (W7 D1), since a defeat to Chelsea back in April 2022. The last visiting team to keep a clean sheet away to Real Madrid in the competition was CSKA Moscow in December 2018, with Real Madrid netting in 24 consecutive home games since then (an average of 2.2 per game).

Following their 3-2 win over Union Berlin on MD1, Braga will be looking to record consecutive away victories in major European competition for the first time since September-December 2019 (a run of three in the UEFA Europa League). Indeed, they’ve never previously won back-to-back away games in the UEFA Champions League.

Jude Bellingham could become the first Real Madrid player in European Cup/UEFA Champions League history to score in each of his first four appearances. The Englishman has netted three goals in three games in the competition this term, with only Rodrygo in 2019-20 (4) and Raúl in 1995-96 (6) netting more in a single edition of the tournament for the club while under 21.

Álvaro Djaló scored Braga’s only goal in the reverse fixture against Real Madrid, with what was his first UEFA Champions League goal. The Spaniard is the only non-Portuguese European player to score for the club in the competition.

Since the start of last season, no player has been involved in more open play sequences ending in goals (16) than Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior in the UEFA Champions League. Indeed, only Erling Haaland (16.2) has a higher total xG from open play sequences he’s been involved in than the Brazilian (15.4).

Bruma has been directly involved in three goals in three games for Braga in the UEFA Champions League this season (two goals, one assist), the most of any player for the club. He scored and assisted in Braga’s previous away game in the competition – a 3-2 win at Union Berlin.
