Luton Town vs Crystal Palace Match Stats Preview

This is the first meeting between Luton and Crystal Palace in any competition since the 2006-07 Championship campaign, with the home side winning both games 2-1 back then.

Four of the six top-flight meetings between Luton and Crystal Palace have been drawn (one win each), including both games the last time the sides met in the top tier in 1991-92.

Crystal Palace have won just one of their last eight away league games against Luton (D3 L4), winning 1-0 in April 1994 thanks to a Chris Coleman strike.

Luton have won just one of their opening 12 Premier League matches (D3 L8), their fewest wins at this stage of a top-flight season since 1974-75 (W1 D6 L5), going on to finish 20th and being relegated.

Crystal Palace have won five of their last 11 away Premier League matches since Roy Hodgson returned to the club (D2 L4), as many as in their previous 28 combined on the road (D9 L14). Since the first away game in this run (April 9th, 5-1 at Leeds), only Man City (6) have won more away games than the Eagles.

Luton Town have suffered five Premier League defeats by a single goal this season, the joint most of any side (level with Sheffield United). Meanwhile, three of opponents Crystal Palace’s four wins this season have come via a one-goal victory.

Crystal Palace enjoyed 67.2% possession in their 3-2 defeat to Everton on MD12. Since they returned to the Premier League in 2013-14, it was only the 10th time they’d had 67% possession or more in a game, winning just two of those (D3 L5), one of which was against Roy Hodgson’s Watford in May 2022.

For a third consecutive Premier League season, Crystal Palace’s Odsonne Édouard has scored at least five goals (6 in 2021-22, 5 in 2022-23). He’s done so in just 11 appearances this season, scoring the same amount in 35 appearances last term.

Only Mohamed Salah to Darwin Núñez (13) and Moussa Diaby to Ollie Watkins (11) have created more chances for another teammate than Luton’s Alfie Doughty has for Carlton Morris (8) in the Premier League this season. Doughty has played the second-most successful crosses (26) while Morris has won the second-most aerial duels (54).

Luton’s Andros Townsend played 168 Premier League games for Crystal Palace between 2016 and 2021. Six different players have scored against Palace in the competition after playing for them, most recently Patrick Bamford for Leeds in April. Townsend’s one goal against Palace came just before he joined the club, scoring a free-kick for Newcastle United in April 2016.
