Barcelona vs Porto Match Stats Preview

Barcelona have won all four of their UEFA Champions League matches against FC Porto, beating them in the 1993-94 semi-final, twice in the 1999-00 second group stage and on MD2 of this season.

FC Porto have lost their last three away European matches against Barcelona, with this their first such game since March 2000 when they lost 4-2 in the UEFA Champions League. Their one away victory at Barcelona was in a 1-0 win in the UEFA Cup in 1972-73.

Barcelona have never lost a home game against Portuguese opposition in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League (W7 D2), while Benfica are the only side to have avoided defeat away to the Spanish side across the two competitions (0-0 draws in December 2012 and November 2021).

FC Porto have only won three of their 14 away games against Spanish sides in the UEFA Champions League (D3 L8), and have won once in the most recent five (D1 L3) – 2-0 v Athletic Club in November 2014, under Julen Lopetegui.

FC Porto have won seven of their last eight games in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League (L1), although their one defeat in this run did come in this season’s reverse fixture against Barcelona (0-1 at the Estádio do Dragão).

18 of Barcelona’s last 19 goals in the UEFA Champions League have been scored from open play, with just one coming via a set piece (corner v Royal Antwerp on MD1). Only Manchester City (13.3) and Bayern Munich (8.9) have a higher xG from open play than Barcelona (7.7) in the competition this season.

Barcelona’s Ilkay Gündogan has completed the most passes while under pressure of any player in the UEFA Champions League this season (219) – indeed, the German midfielder has a 93% pass completion rate when under pressure in the competition this term, completing 219 of his 235 attempts.

Among the five instances of a player assisting a teammate twice in the UEFA Champions League this season, FC Porto’s Mehdi Taremi and Evanilson are the pair with the fewest minutes played together in the competition this term (Evanilson assisted twice by Taremi – 136 minutes on pitch together).

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has scored 47 goals in 42 games in the UEFA Champions League since turning 30, with only Cristiano Ronaldo netting more in the competition in his 30s (68 goals in 74 appearances).

FC Porto’s Mehdi Taremi has applied 45.3 final third pressures per 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League this season; the most of any player in the competition (min. 300 minutes played). He also leads all FC Porto players for pressures applied per 90 in the tournament this term (93).
