Bayern Munich vs PSG UCL Match Stats Preview

This is the 13th UEFA Champions League meeting between Bayern Munich and PSG, with each side winning six of the previous 12. It will be the most the French side have ever faced a specific opponent in the competition.

Bayern Munich have won three of their last four home games against Paris Saint-Germain, though they did lose the most recent one in the 2020-21 quarter-final (2-3).

After winning four of their first five UEFA Champions League meetings with Bayern Munich (L1), PSG have won just two of their subsequent seven against them (L5).

Bayern Munich have been eliminated just twice in the 22 previous occasions they've won the first leg of a UEFA Champions League knockout tie, going out to Real Madrid (2001-02 quarter-final) and Inter Milan (2010-11 round of 16).

PSG's first leg defeat in Paris was just the sixth time they've lost the first leg of a UEFA Champions League in 19 knockout ties. They've progressed just once from this position, at this stage of the tournament against Borussia Dortmund in 2019-20.

Bayern Munich have won 15 of their last 17 UEFA Champions League home games (D1 L1), though the only defeat in that run was against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2020-21 quarter-final.

Paris Saint-Germain are the only side left in the UEFA Champions League who haven't kept a clean sheet in the competition this season. In the current format of the competition (since 2003-04), there have been just three occasions of a team reaching the quarter-final without keeping a single clean sheet – CSKA Moscow in 2009-10 and Real Madrid in both 2012-13 and 2016-17.

Bayern Munich's last three wins against PSG have been by a 1-0 scoreline, with Kingsley Coman netting the winner in two of those (2020 final, and the first leg of this tie).

PSG's Kylian Mbappé has scored in both of his UEFA Champions League away games against Bayern Munich, netting three goals in total. No player has ever scored in three consecutive visits to the German side in the competition.

PSG forward Lionel Messi is just one goal away from becoming the second player to score 50 goals in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League (49 goals in 76 games), after Cristiano Ronaldo (67 goals in 85 games).
