Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig Bundesliga Match Preview

After previously failing to win any of their previous eight straight competitive matches (D2 L6), RB Leipzig's 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture marked their first win over Borussia Dortmund since a 3-2 win away in October 2017, which was also Leipzig's only away win at Dortmund in five meetings (D1 L3).

RB Leipzig won their first Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Dortmund in 2016-17 (1-0 on MD 2), but haven’t kept a clean sheet in the 10 Bundesliga games against BVB since - the Saxons' longest run of conceding against a single opponent in the top-flight. Moreover, RB have conceded more goals away from home against no other team in the Bundesliga as they have at BVB (13).

RB Leipzig have won more points (23) and have a better goal difference (+19) than any other side in the second half of the Bundesliga season, which is also their best second half of a Bundesliga campaign in club history at this point, while they have already collected one point more than in the entire first half of the season (22). Borussia Dortmund are in second place (22 points, +14 goals) in the second-half table, and this is BVB's fourth-best second half in the Bundesliga after 2011-12 (28), 2019-20 (27) and 2015-16 (26).

Borussia Dortmund have recorded 11 home wins in this season's Bundesliga (L2), no team has more wins (FCB also 11), and BVB have never had more after 13 BL home games (11 most recently in 2018-19). Dortmund have also gone two BL home games in a row without conceding for the first time under Marco Rose.

RB Leipzig are unbeaten in nine competitive games (W6 D3), last doing so at the turn of 2020-21 (also 9). The Saxons have won each of their last five away games in all competitions, while only in 2019 have they managed a longer winning streak away from home (9 in the first 9 away games of the year).

Borussia Dortmund have scored only four goals in their last four Bundesliga matches, never scoring more than once. Before that, the last time BVB never scored more than one goal in four BL games in a row was in 2014 (6). RB Leipzig have conceded the fewest goals in the league since Domenico Tedesco took charge (12).

RB Leipzig have scored seven goals under Domenico Tedesco in the Bundesliga after direct attacks, more than any other BL team since Tedesco took charge. No team have conceded more goals after such attacks this BL season than Borussia Dortmund (7, same as Fürth).

Borussia Dortmund had a 74% passing accuracy in their 1-1 to Cologne on MD 27; only in the 1-2 loss against RB Leipzig have they had a lower passing accuracy this season (72%). In Cologne, Dortmund allowed their opponents to force 18 high turnovers - a season-high for BVB. RB have recorded the second most high turnovers overall this season (281), only FCB have more (355).

RB Leipzig have an expected goals total of 59.0 in this season's Bundesliga, only Bayern have more (80.3), with Borussia Dortmund coming in fourth (54.2 xG). While BVB have exceeded their xG value by a league-high 12.8 goals, RB have underperformed theirs by 2.0 goals and went scoreless in the 0-0 against Frankfurt, despite an xG value of 1.7.

Erling Haaland has scored more goals in all competitions for BVB against RB Leipzig (6) than against any other team – he has scored a brace in each of his three matches. Most recently, however, the Norwegian went scoreless in three consecutive Bundesliga games for the first time.
