Galatasaray vs Lazio Europa League Match Preview

Galatasaray and Lazio last met in the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League in 2015-16, with the Italians progressing 4-2 on aggregate.

In the group stages of European competition, Galatasaray and Lazio have only been drawn together once previously, in the first group stage of the 2001-02 UEFA Champions League. Both sides won their home matches 1-0 that season.

Galatasaray have only won two of their last 30 matches in major UEFA European competition (D9 L19, excluding qualifiers), and are on a winless run of 13 such matches (D4 L9) since a 3-0 win over Lokomotiv Moscow in September 2018 in the UEFA Champions League

Lazio have lost eight of their last 10 UEFA Europa games (W2) and suffered four group stage defeats in 2019-20 when they last featured in the tournament, their most in a campaign since 2009-10 (also four).

Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri has won 19 of his 25 matches in the UEFA Europa League (D4 L2) and won the competition the last time he featured in it in 2018-19 as Chelsea manager. Among managers to take charge of 20+ games in the competition proper since it began in 2009, only Diego Simeone (P26 W21, 81%) has a better win percentage than Sarri (76%).

Lokomotiv Moscow vs Marseille Europa League Match Preview

This is the first ever European meeting between Lokomotiv Moscow and Marseille, and Lokomotiv’s first match against a French side since eliminating Nice in the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League in 2017-18.

Marseille’s last European encounter with a Russian side was in the UEFA Champions League in the 2010-11 group stages, facing Spartak Moscow. After a 1-0 home loss, Marseille won 3-0 in the Russian capital and would advance to the next round.

Lokomotiv Moscow have won just two of their last 20 games in major UEFA European competition (D3 L15), although the 18 most recent games in this run came in the UEFA Champions League. Their last UEFA Europa League tournament was in 2017-18, losing 8-1 on aggregate to Atletico Madrid in the last 16.

In all European competition, Marseille have only won three of their last 25 away matches (D6 L16) and have lost their last five in a row by an aggregate score of 13-1.

Marseille’s Jorge Sampaoli is the first Argentinian to manage in the UEFA Europa League since Diego Simeone in the 2018 final, who won 3-0 with Atletico Madrid against Marseille that day.

Red Star Belgrade vs Sporting Braga Europa League Match Preview

Crvena Zvezda and Sporting Braga haven’t faced since December 2007 in the UEFA Cup, with the Portuguese side winning 2-0 in a group stage meeting.

Braga have only visited Crvena Zvezda once previously in European competition, drawing 0-0 in the 2005-06 UEFA Cup first round, first leg.

Crvena Zvezda have only lost three of their 16 UEFA Europa League games previously, though eight of their games have been draws (W5) – among teams to play at least 10 games in the competition proper since it began in 2009, only St. Etienne (54%) have drawn a higher share of their games than Crvena Zvezda (50%).

Braga have only lost one of their last 12 UEFA Europa League group stage matches (W8 D3), going down 4-0 against Leicester City last November at the King Power.

Braga have never lost their opening group stage match in the UEFA Europa League (W5 D1) and have won when it has fallen away from home on all four previous occasions.

Real Betis vs Celtics Europa League Match Preview

This is the first ever European meeting between Real Betis and Celtic, and the Spanish side’s first ever game against Scottish opponents.

Celtic have lost their last six major UEFA European matches against Spanish opposition by an aggregate score of 19-1 since they beat Barcelona 2-1 in November 2012 in the Champions League despite enjoying just 16% possession in that game.

This is Real Betis’ first European campaign since 2018-19, when they competed in the UEFA Europa League and were eliminated in the last 32 by Rennes. They have only ever lost one of their 12 previous group stage matches in the competition (W5 D6), a 1-0 defeat to Lyon in November 2013, while they have never conceded more than once in a group stage game, keeping eight clean sheets.

In all European competition, Celtic have never won an away match against Spanish opponents in 18 attempts against seven different teams (D3 L15). Their last Spanish visit was a 1-0 loss to Valencia in the UEFA Europa League in February 2019.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is the first ever Australian to manage in the UEFA Europa League, while his opposite number Manuel Pellegrini is set to take charge of a Europa League match for the first time. However, the Chilean did manage Villarreal in the 2004-05 and 2007-08 UEFA Cup campaigns, losing just two of those 20 matches over the two seasons (W12 D6).
