Lazio vs Club Brugge UEFA Champions League Match Preview or Key Statistics 📰
Lazio and Club Brugge have met only once previously, drawing 1-1 in the reverse fixture in this season’s UEFA Champions League group stage.
Lazio have won each of their two European home games against Belgian opponents to date – 2-1 v Anderlecht in the UEFA Champions League in March 2001, and most recently, 2-0 v Zulte Waregem in the UEFA Europa League in September 2017.
Club Brugge are winless in their last four away games against Italian opponents in European competition (D1 L3), while they were beaten by five goals on their last such trip – 0-5 v Napoli in the UEFA Europa League in September 2015.
If Lazio avoid defeat, they will remain unbeaten in a Champions League group stage for the first time since 1999-00 (first ground stage), while this will also be the first time they’ve reached the knockout stages of the competition since that campaign.
Victory for Club Brugge will see them reach the Champions League knockout stages for the first time. With this their eighth season in the competition, it would be the longest wait to reach the KO stages for the first time since PSV, who first progressed past the group stages in their 9th participation in 2004-05.
Lazio haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 16 Champions League games. However, the Italian side have also scored in each of their last 11 – no side has ever gone 12 consecutive games in the competition both scoring and conceding.
Club Brugge are looking to win consecutive Champions League games for the first time since November 2005. However, they’ve never won three games in a single Champions League group stage before.
Club Brugge have won their final group stage match in just one of their previous seven Champions League campaigns (D2 L4), beating Ajax 2-1 in 2003-04.
Lazio’s Ciro Immobile has scored seven goals in his eight Champions League starts, netting four goals in his three appearances in the competition this season.
Hans Vaneken is Club Brugge’s top scorer in the Champions League, with his penalty goal against Zenit last time his fifth goal for the Belgian side in the competition.
